Our special program SULAMOT – Music for Social Change, completed its fifth year of activity, celebrating with a series of community concerts countrywide.
Sulamot is an innovative and inspirational music education program for at-risk children. It focuses primarily on children with the least resources and greatest needs in peripheral areas and underprivileged communities. The program reaches children from many different backgrounds including immigrants from numerous countries, reflecting the diversity found in Israel.
When Sulamot enters a school everyone participates – students are not separated based on talent and within three months are able to gather and play together in an orchestra. The program provides students with many opportunities and experiences. When they complete the program, the children know far more than how to play an instrument – they are instilled with a sense of leadership, teamwork, discipline and accomplishment.
Sulamot runs 18 orchestras all over the country from Carmiel in the North, through Mitzpe Ramon in the South. Their fifth birthday party included a combined ensemble of over 100 children. See below for photographs of this exciting and moving event!
