The 70th Annual Aspen Music Festival is just one part of July’s AFIPO Patrons Trip
This July, the 70th Aspen Music Festival will provide the backdrop and musical highlights for an AFIPO members-only trip that includes elegant dinners in beautiful homes, guided tours of art museums and private collections, and time to explore this famous Rocky Mountain retreat and celebrity haven.
“The Music Festival concerts will be wonderful,” said AFIPO West Coast Director Danielle Ames Spivak. “But they’re just the beginning of what we have curated for this exclusive 2018 Patron Trip. Among the many other wonderful experiences are architecture and art collection tours, hospitality in private homes, and an opera master class.”
This year’s Patron Trip, July 12 to 16, comes at the midpoint of the eight-week Music Festival, which runs June 28 to August 19. This annual showcase of the Aspen Music Festival and School, with a 2018 theme of “Paris: City of Lights,” will include Parisian-themed concerts with works by Debussy, Ravel, Fauré and others among the 400 classical music events by five orchestras, soloists and chamber groups, as well as fully staged opera productions. Among the gifted music students from all over the world are a group of talented young Israeli musicians who will share an exclusive performance with the patron group.
Patron Trips are exclusive benefits for AFIPO donors that, beyond providing access to landmark cultural events in fascinating locales, offer the chance to form or renew friendships with other interesting supporters from around the country.
“American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Patrons share a love of Israel and of course a love of classical music,” said AFIPO CEO Naomi Grabel. “To come together as supporters from coast to coast and experience amazing classical music in an idyllic environment is a great way of contributing to our orchestra and meeting people who share this musical passion.”
A MUSICAL PEAK EXPERIENCE
After touching down at Aspen Airport on Thursday, July 12, Patrons will be transported to the Little Nell, Aspen’s premiere luxury resort and only Five-Star, Five-Diamond hotel, where they can mingle and get acquainted over cocktails and dinner.
Friday begins with a private guided tour of the Aspen Music Festival campus followed by a visit to a renowned private art collection. An early evening concert performance by the Aspen Chamber Symphony will feature Robert Spano conducting and Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano, performing Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2, The Age of Anxiety and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica. The evening will end with a Shabbat dinner in another exquisite private residence.
The weekend kicks off Saturday morning with an opera master class and rehearsal followed by a private guided tour of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. The late afternoon and dinner hour are unscheduled so you have time to explore Aspen by bike, hike or other means and then dine at your choice of restaurants. An evening recital by concert pianist Orli Shaham, a great friend of the AFIPO, will conclude the day.
On Sunday morning the group has a chance to tour the famed Aspen Institute before strolling another landmark Aspen residence with a superb art collection. That afternoon we will hear the Aspen Festival Orchestra and Voices of Aspen Opera Center perform an original piano concerto written by and featuring Russian piano sensation Daniil Trifonov. Dinner at a private home will bring the day, and the weekend’s activities, to a close.
After a farewell breakfast on Monday, July 16, transportation will be provided back to Aspen Airport.
