Music in the Mountains
Magical is a word that was often uttered during our sold-out July patron trip to Aspen. Twenty friends of the Israel Philharmonic from across the US and Canada gathered for a spectacular long weekend that showcased Aspen’s best cultural offerings. Our exquisite home base was the Little Nell hotel and each day was filled with visits to private art collections and tours of the Aspen Art Museum, the Aspen Music School Buchsbaum Campus, the Anderson Art Ranch, and Maroon Bells.
The trip was built around notable Aspen Music Festival performances, featuring the Aspen Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Chamber Orchestra and internationally renowned soloists Daniil Trifonov and Orli Shaham. We also enjoyed a peek at the opera-making process in an opera master class at the Wheeler Opera House. In addition to the lunches and dinners in extraordinary private homes, the group dined at leading area restaurants Matsuhisa and Plato. No weekend would have been complete without a candlelit Shabbat dinner, and ours was held at Element 47 at the Little Nell which went on well past midnight because everyone was having a ball.
The cultural experiences were excellent but it was a laughter-filled four days of camaraderie and cross-continental connections that was most important to our national community of supporters.
