A Message about the Cyber Attack on the Israel Philharmonic’s Global Gala

Updated 7/1/20

Friends,

In the face of the worst global pandemic in a century and a uniquely challenging economic environment, the Israel Philharmonic initiated its first ever global virtual Gala, featuring  the world’s finest soloists and conductors and of course, Maestro Lahav Shani and the musicians of the Israel Philharmonic.

The Gala would be free for all to view, bringing the Orchestra’s message of hope, unity, and inspiration to all corners of the world. And yet, as many of you witnessed, as the broadcast was about to begin, both the IPO and Medici websites crashed. This is confirmed to have been caused by a cyberattack.

We are heartbroken that many thousands who had planned to tune in live to this event were denied the opportunity and more than ever, we are determined that the unique sound of the IPO will continue to resonate.

We hope that you will help us do so in three important ways:

First, please watch the Gala in its entirety here.

Second, spread our message to all your family and friends, and encourage them to watch the Gala by sharing this page or a link to the event.

Third, we would greatly appreciate your making a contribution to the Israel Philharmonic. Help us to weather this difficult storm and sustain the Orchestra’s excellence and integrity.

In the face of darkness, our organization will continue to spread light. Thank you for standing behind us.

Dame Helen Mirren concluded the Gala with words that could not be more appropriate: “Stay safe and know that this will pass. But music will be with us forever. Thank God for music.”

Yours,

Tali Gottlieb & Danielle Ames Spivak
