Ambassador Society Spring Musicale

04/25/2012

On Wednesday, April 25th, AFIPO’s  Ambassador Society members attended an intimate, private musicale in the lovely home of Lenore Ruben, featuring pianist Navah Perlman and cellist Zuill Bailey, to benefit the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s Sulamot – Music for Social Change program.

After enjoying sunset views over the Hudson River during the cocktail reception, our hostess Lenore Ruben welcomed everyone as they settled in to revel in the artistry and beauty of the musical program, spotlighting Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3, piano pieces by Brahms as well as Cello Sonata in E minor, and Chopin’s Nocturne in C# minor, transcribed for cello.

At the conclusion of the performance, AFIPO Board President David Hirsch spoke about the importance of supporting Sulamot, an innovative and hope-instilling music education program for children at-risk, focusing on young children and youth in peripheral areas and in underprivileged communities (click here for more information on Sulamot).   Navah Perlman shared her personal reflections about growing up with the IPO and urged everyone gathered to go online and search YouTube for clips of the IPO performing Hatikvah.  “But even better,” suggested David Hirsch, “would be to hear Hatikvah live when the IPO returns to New York City and performs at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, October 25th.”  The evening concluded with a convivial supper with the artists.

Our sincere gratitude to Lenore Ruben for hosting this wonderful evening and most especially to Navah Perlman and Zuill Bailey for sharing their amazing talent with us.
