Position Available - Development Director

Development Director

American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is the North American fundraising arm of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. AFIPO’s goal is to raise funds for the Orchestra’s educational and outreach programs, operating budget, international touring, capital expenditures, and archival projects, through special events, annual and specialized campaigns, and grant writing.

Working from the National Office in New York, the Development Director is responsible for the design and execution of a comprehensive development program, including major gifts, corporate and foundation relations and direct mail. A key function will be to provide leadership and direction to the Executive Director and Board of Directors in development initiatives, as well as cultivate and provide support for our young leadership program. Focus on development in regional areas will be required.

Responsibilities/Functions:

• Direct responsibility for all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, corporate and foundation relations and direct mail.
• Develop, execute and manage all aspects of the development program, including prospect identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, follow-up and stewardship.
• Coordinate and manage our Associates Program, including support of membership structure and leadership cultivation.
• Design and implement an annual acknowledgement system tailored to all gift levels. Draft acknowledgements and other correspondence as needed.
• Write copy for fundraising publications.
• Research and identify corporate and foundation funding sources. Draft grant proposals and individualize as necessary for specific corporations and foundations.
• Work with the Board of Directors to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects.
• Implement and monitor the development budget.
• Develop and implement strategies for solicitation of major gift prospects in conjunction with the Executive Director.
• Orchestrate cultivation and solicitation meetings. Prepare written and oral presentations and proposals as needed to support the Executive Director and Board members engaged in solicitations.

Qualifications:

Highly motivated individual with at least 5 years fundraising experience and a proven track record of success in designing comprehensive development programs and successfully soliciting gifts from all sources. Evidence of ability to take initiative will be required. Superior organizational, strategic, verbal and writing skills are necessary, as is an ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Experience with volunteer and board management as well as prospect research is required. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge required.

Compensation:

Annual compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package will be provided.
